The problem

Hydrogen and renewables work is modular and repeat-heavy — electrolyzer, purification, drying, compression, balance-of-plant — and those packages get configured and reconfigured at concept and quote stage, often before a project is funded. A full plant-design suite is built for detailed engineering, usually sits with a separate CAD group, and is overkill for repeat skid work. Draw it dumb in Visio instead and you get a picture with no data behind it, plus equipment and valve lists you re-key by hand and reconcile every time a package changes. So, the most iterative, repeat-heavy stage of the work runs on the least-suited tools.

Where VPID fits — and where it doesn't. VPID is a front-end P&ID authoring tool. It's not a 3D plant modeler, it doesn't do isometrics, and it isn't a replacement for detailed-design CAD. That's deliberate — it owns the stage where the heavy tools don't fit: concept, front-end, skid and balance-of-plant packages, and repeat configurations.
