The problem

At the front end of an oil & gas project, a facility concept, a separation or metering package, a pad or skid, the P&ID work is real, but the tooling doesn't fit. A full plant-design suite is built for detailed engineering, usually sits with a separate CAD group, and is hard to justify before the scope is even firm. Draw it dumb in Visio instead and you get a picture with no data behind it, plus equipment and valve lists you re-key by hand and reconcile every time the drawing changes. So, the most iterative stage of the project runs on the least-suited tools.

Meet VPID

Visio P&ID Process Designer is an intelligent P&ID authoring tool built on Microsoft Visio.

It gives the front end of your workflow what it's been missing: real, standards-compliant P&IDs the process engineer can build directly, no separate CAD group, no drafting queue and the lists that come straight off the drawing.

Where VPID fits — and where it doesn't. VPID is a front-end P&ID authoring tool. It's not a 3D plant modeler, it doesn't do isometrics or stress analysis, and it isn't a replacement for detailed-design CAD. That's deliberate — it owns the stage where the heavy tools don't fit: concept, FEED, facility studies, and packaged/skid scopes.
